A Message from CMC President, Ma Bernadette Andres-Salgarino, Ed.D., NBCT

Dear CMC Family,

 

As we embrace the summer season, we do our best to stay hydrated amidst the triple digit temperatures many of us are experiencing. While we hydrate our bodies, I also want to encourage us to hydrate our minds and renew ourselves as professionals. I am reaching out with great enthusiasm to share some exciting CMC developments and reaffirm our collective commitment to mathematics education. CMC promotes professional excellence and effective communication while remaining steadfast in our commitments to inclusion and diversity, and our belief that all students can become mathematically competent and confident when provided with a rigorous and challenging mathematical program supported by high expectations.

 

At the core of CMC’s mission are three fundamental commitments:

 

1. Promoting Professional Excellence

We commit to fostering professional activities that ensure continual improvement toward excellence in mathematics teaching. We strive to provide educators with the tools and resources to inspire and engage their students in meaningful mathematical learning through conferences and collaborative initiatives. CMC provides many opportunities for its members to join in professional development.

Join the conversation through attending our upcoming CMC-sponsored Zoom meetings hosted by The Membership and Affiliates Resources Committee (MARC) and the ComMuniCator. 2. Effective Communication

CMC actively communicates with educators, parents, the public, and legislative bodies concerning teaching rigorous and challenging mathematics. We aim to advocate for policies and practices that support high-quality mathematics instruction for all students.

 

CMC’s stance on equity and antiracist mathematics education aligns with the following position papers and resources that embody the mission of the California Mathematics Council. As a state mathematics body, it is essential that we clearly state our positions on important topics that will create opportunities to support all students to be successful in mathematics.
