In the next four years the educational landscape will change dramatically with the inception and implementation of the Common Core State Standards, and I am excited about the pivotal role CMC can play. As a professional organization, CMC’s belief that all students can become mathematically proficient gives us a laser-like focus in how best to implement the new standards in a rigorous and challenging program.
My teaching history includes 25 years at the secondary and college level, from my recent experience as a district and online secondary math coach to chairing middle/high school math adoptions; from a district professional development provider to a CAHSEE Item Writer and Reviewer; from a high school Interactive Mathematics Program teacher to a director of an MSP grant that introduced Lesson Study to our district; and from a classroom teacher to (a favorite of mine) a teachier of mathematics for elementary teachers at the college level.
The benefits of attending all three section conferences (Asilomar, Palm Springs, and Central’s Symposiums), volunteering at the Algebraic Symposiums, and serving as Secretary on the CMC Central Board are the networking with like-minded professionals, getting up-to-date information, and getting opportunities to promote mathematics education for me. I want the same opportunities for everyone.
These varied experiences have provided me with a realistic view of the teaching of mathematics today, what it has been, and what it can be. I look forward to the challenge of fulfilling the mission of our organization and ensuring CMC is the voice of the California teachers of mathematics.

I had taught for 34 years before I retired. CMC has been a part of more than half of those years and truly made a difference in how I taught mathematics. I have had the pleasure of working with CMC-South in many capacities. From a conference volunteer stuffing bags to chairing a variety of conference committees and to have the opportunity to serve two terms as the CMC-South secretary. In my retirement years, I?ve had the pleasure of bringing the CMC Math Festivals to schools throughout Southern California.
I look forward to serving this organization as Secretary and would do my best to fulfill the duties of this office. |

As I finish my second term as your State Treasurer, the financial state of our organization is in a different position than it was four years ago. The past two years were tight financially, but we managed to stay within budget and provide excellent opportunities for mathematics and networking throughout the state. In the eight years I have been involved in the California Mathematics Council I have seen our budget fluctuate in good times and in difficult times. Once again we need to make smart decisions about our finances and at the same time move our organization forward in making us the group that everyone looks to, seeks advice from, and gathers input regarding mathematics. I would appreciate your support in re-electing me so I can continue with our work in making our organization the best we can be during these critical times. As a middle school teacher, I am aware of the limitations and struggles that we have as teachers to do our best in our classroom and help our students reach their full potential. Any opportunity that we have to make mathematics more relevant and reachable for our students is an opportunity worth seeking. CMC offers those opportunities to teachers, coaches, para-support staff, administrators and students throughout the state and we would like to continue to do so.

After four years of being away from the North, I am anxious to return! I miss being involved at a deeper level in the Asilomar Math Conference. My past experience as a committee head for six years and Vice-President of North for four years gave me great opportunities to work the conference and be involved at various levels. I feel that now is an excellent time for me to step-up to a higher role in leadership for the Northern Section and that my past experience with North and my current position at the State level will be beneficial for the tasks need as President-Elect and in the future, the role of President. I would be honored to be elected for this position.

I have always had a passion for mathematics education. CMC has continually fueled this passion during my 15 years of teaching. I have taught a variety of grades in both elementary and middle school. I have also served as a Mathematics Coach and instructional leader in Millbrae and for the Tehama County Department of Education spanning grades K-8. The CMC-N Vice President’s primary responsibility is to plan the program for the Asilomar Mathematics Conferences. As the current CMC-North Asilomar Conference Program Chair I have had the opportunity to know what is needed to plan for the conference, anticipate member needs, and to recruit exceptional speakers. In addition, I have served as the Conference Chairperson for the Mt. Lassen Mathematics Council’s Annual Fall Conference which has helped me refine my skills as a conference program planner. I will use my experience, skills, and passion for mathematics education to continue to provide the high quality mathematics conference we have all come to expect. |

A mathematics educator for the past 25 years, I have taught middle and high school mathematics for 13 years, as well as serving as adjunct at both CSU Fresno and Fresno Pacific. I was the Director of the San Joaquin Valley Mathematics Project for 3 years, have been a National Consultant for the College Board for 12 years, and was the Mathematics Coordinator for the Fresno County Office of Education(FCOE) for 12 years. While at FCOE I developed and mentored a cadre of mathematics coaches who were assigned full time to coach in Fresno County schools working with mathematics teachers of all grades, K-12. I now serve as the Executive Director of the CPM Educational Program, whose mission it is to support teachers and students in improving secondary mathematics education. |

I have been in mathematics education for more than 30 years and am currently teaching at Clovis High School, having been there since 1984. Over the years I have been involved in statewide mathematics committees and have spoken at state, regional, and national conferences. I have worked with state assessments over the last 20 years and continue to be involved with committee and math project opportunities as they arise. I am currently the central section?s treasurer and would like the honor of continuing with this position. I would like to take all the knowledge I have acquired over the last two years and be able to use it to help our section during these monetarily tight times. I would appreciate your vote in the upcoming election. Thank you so very much.

It has been my pleasure to serve as your CMC-South secretary for the past two years and I would appreciate the opportunity to continue serving the community in the new role of President-Elect. I have been in education for 14 years, serving as a classroom teacher, bi-lingual resource teacher, academic coach, and as a school-site administrator.
I have volunteered as a CMC-South Conference Program Committee member; as TODOS Finance Committee chairperson; as president of the SGVMC, and currently serve as a member of the Region 11 Algebra Forum. I was honored to accept the invitation to be a member of the Common Core State Standards Workforce committee, as this was an opportunity to advocate for equity and 21st century skills in mathematics.
Walt Disney said “Our greatest natural resource is the mind of our children.” This statement rings so true in my heart; the endless possibility a child has to create and discover is what fuels my passion for learning and mathematics is a vehicle that provides identity and access to empower and achieve these possibilities. This is why math educators unite with CMC; to share and support common goals and the strength that comes from this unity. It would be a great joy to serve you, the members of CMC-South, as your President-Elect. In this role, I will continue to be an advocate for equity and quality in mathematics education for all students and a support to the educators who serve our children.

For more than twenty-five years as a high school mathematics teacher I have benefited from the countless hours of voluntary service invested by others. Now I want to contribute to our profession by serving as your vice-president and promoting meaningful mathematics for all students, quality professional development for educators, and informative communication for parents and education leaders throughout the state of California.
One of the primary responsibilities of the Vice-President is to serve as conference chair for the annual CMC-South Mathematics Conference in Palm Springs, a position I have held for two years. I will use my experience to lead the dozens of conference volunteers through the current economic challenges. |

We find ourselves in an interesting time now, from dire, in terms of California's budget concerns, to hopeful, with the advent of the new Common Core State Standards. Yet despite the ever changing climate of education, we know that the root of our work is providing children with life opportunities, and the meaningful understanding of mathematics is foundational to those opportunities. CMC-South has never wavered from that perspective, and its provision of support for teachers and students of mathematics alike continues to grow. In the role of Secretary, I hope to contribute to the spread of this knowledge as we focus on conceptual and relevant instruction and learning. I bring experience from the CMC-Equity Committee, SGVMC membership, and 12 years of mathematics teaching, coaching and leadership.

As our mathematical community advances to unite 21st century learners with the Common Core, it would be a great honor to serve as Treasurer on the team representing the members of CMC-South. I have been a math teacher for 18 years in Vista Unified teaching everything from 6th grade math to AP Calculus. I have held various leadership roles within my district and the math community, including three years as Treasurer of the Greater San Diego Math Council (GSDMC). In this position, I have managed an annual budget of over $50,000 including monthly reports, finances related to the annual GSDMC Math Conference and Teacher of the Year Banquet. In addition, I’ve provided an in-depth analysis of spending trends for our six-county wide student events for the purpose of their preservation and expansion of those events. I am excited for the opportunity to learn, contribute and celebrate our next steps in promoting 21st century mathematics for all students and would be honored to serve as the next Treasurer of CMC-South.
